Zevelyn's interest in
sewing and design began at a very young age, when watching her
grandmothers sew and crochet. As a child, Zevelyn tapped into her
creative passion by drawing, stringing beaded jewelry, and by designing clothing for some the
most highly recognized and influential women in history, her Barbie dolls.
"With a name like Zevelyn, she's sure to become a famous artist or designer,"
her parents joked, shortly after she was born.
Years later, when it was
time to decide what she wanted to be when she 'grew up', Zevelyn considered
pursuing a degree in art or fashion design but instinct told her to follow her
other childhood dream of becoming a teacher. She graduated magna cum laude from
NYU and found a job in one of the most amazing public schools in New York City
where she currently works with students with autism. It was during this time
that Zevelyn returned to her creative roots by sewing handbags, originally for
herself. In spite of their modest beginnings, the handbags sparked an instant
interest and immediately, every teacher
in the school wanted one. Through the encouragement of her family, friends, and
coworkers, Zevelyn launched her website in April 2003. By that summer, she added
jewelry, pillows, and stationery to her line of
products. Since then, Zevelyn's handbags and jewelry have been spotted on fashionistas all over America - from New York City to California - and her
stationery lines have developed a cult-like following all their own.
Over the past three years, Zevelyn's designs
have received numerous amounts of praise and recognition from numerous sources
including Allure Magazine, EW Woman, and the 2006 Fifi Awards.
